Trump campaign claims Harris avoiding ‘her record of failure’ by ducking media – Washington Examiner
The Trump campaign is accusing Vice President Kamala Harris of avoiding the media due to her “record of failure.” Since becoming the Democratic Party’s 2024 presidential nominee, Harris has not conducted any press interviews. A senior adviser to the Trump campaign, Danielle Alvarez, claims that while former President Donald Trump has a strong record to promote, Harris relies heavily on teleprompters and is afraid to confront her own record. Alvarez also criticized the media for being overly favorable towards Harris and called for scrutiny regarding President Biden’s mental state.
In response to media inquiries about Harris’s lack of interactions with reporters, campaign communications director Michael Tyler affirmed that a news conference would occur soon, with Harris planning to engage with the public directly. Political analyst Byron York speculated that Harris’s team may not feel the need for interviews because of the positive media coverage she is currently receiving. He suggested that if her lead over Trump diminishes, she might start granting interviews.

The Trump campaign argued that Vice President Kamala Harris is avoiding the press because of “her record of failure” over the last few years.
Harris, who replaced President Joe Biden as the Democratic Party’s 2024 presidential nominee last month, has yet to do an interview with the media since becoming the party’s nominee. Danielle Alvarez, a senior adviser to the Trump campaign, contended that former President Donald Trump has “a strong record” that he has touted in his recent interviews, whereas Harris is “unable to do a single event without a teleprompter.”
“That’s because she’s afraid of President Trump and she’s afraid to face her record of failure,” Alvarez said on Fox News’s Jesse Watters Primetime, guest-hosted by The Will Cain Show host Will Cain. “President Trump delivered a knockout debate performance against Joe Biden, which allowed her, again, to have that coup to ascend the throne. She hasn’t won a single vote, any support from a single Democrat voter.”
Alvarez also claimed that the media is currently “honeymooning” with Harris, and she called for people to challenge the media for not properly reporting on Biden’s mental decline prior to the first debate in June. She then predicted that Trump would deliver an “incredible” performance at the next debate, which will be between him and Harris.
On Wednesday morning, the Harris-Walz campaign communications director, Michael Tyler, was pressed on when Harris would talk to reporters, with CNN host Jim Acosta arguing that campaign rallies are “not a press conference.”
In response, Tyler said the campaign would “absolutely” do a news conference and cited how Harris claimed she would do an interview “before the end of the month.”
“What she’s going to be focused on, and what this campaign is going to be focused on, is communicating directly with the voters that are actually going to decide the pathway to 270 electoral votes,” Tyler said.
The Washington Examiner’s Byron York suggested Monday that Harris has not done a sit-down interview yet because she and her campaign do not see the need to, as she is receiving “glowing” coverage from the press. He added that if Harris’s newfound lead over Trump does start to go down, then she could begin doing interviews.
Harris and her running mate, Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN), were certified as the Democratic Party’s 2024 presidential ticket last week, with the Democratic National Convention set to begin Monday. Currently, there is only one debate set to be held between Trump and Harris, which ABC News will host on Sept. 10.
On Monday night, Trump partook in a one-on-one conversation with billionaire and X owner Elon Musk, during which the two covered a range of topics, including the assassination attempt on Trump’s life, global conflicts, and Harris’s handling of border security. Musk has also invited Harris to do a similar interview on X.
