Trump campaign ties Harris to Biden as Democratic ticket pivots: ‘Joe Biden 2.0’

Former President Donald Trump‘s campaign is tying Vice President Kamala Harris to President Joe Biden‘s record after the shake-up to the Democratic Party’s ticket for November.

Biden, who had been running against Trump, dropped out of the presidential race Sunday and endorsed Harris to replace him at the top of the Democratic ticket. With Harris appearing to be the likely Democratic presidential nominee, the Trump campaign has tied the vice president to Biden with many key campaign matters, in a press release Monday.

Titled “Harris Dishonest Monday,” the release from the Trump campaign claims Harris would be “Joe Biden 2.0” and went further to assert that “her record is even worse and she is even further to the left.”

The Trump campaign goes through various points on her record with regard to immigration, being “anti-worker,” and crime. The campaign accuses Harris of helping “fuel the invasion at our southern border” and degraded her position in the Biden administration as the “border czar.”

“She has only visited the border once as vice president, and far from actually securing the border, she supports the most radical elements of the Democrats’ open-borders agenda. She supports abolishing ICE, wants to decriminalize illegal border crossings, and smears Border Patrol agents, namely by being one of the main promoters of the ‘whipping’ hoax,” the Trump campaign release said.

The Trump campaign also tied Harris to Biden’s electric vehicle mandates and environmental policies backed by the White House. While the campaign tried to link Biden and Harris together, they also went after the vice president for her own policy on crime. The release mentioned Harris’s record as a prosecutor and her support for a bail fund for rioters in 2020.

Another point the Trump campaign discussed is how Biden and Harris are similar — with approval rating and alleged incoherence. Biden has a net unfavorable rating, 56.6%-39.1%, for a margin of -17.5%, according to the RealClearPolitics polling average, while Harris also has a net unfavorable rating, 52.3%-38.1%, for a margin of -14.2%.

With the alleged incoherence Harris shares with Biden, the Trump campaign pointed to Harris’s 2022 remarks when she talked about the significance of the passage of time.

“The governor and I and we were all doing a tour of the library here and talking about the significance of the passage of time. Right? The significance of the passage of time,” Harris said in Louisiana in 2022.

“So, when you think about it, there is great significance to the passage of time in terms of what we need to do to lay these wires, what we need to do to create these jobs. And there is such great significance to the passage of time when we think about a day in the life of our children and what that means to the future of our nation, depending on whether or not they have the resources they need to achieve their God-given talent,” she added.

The Trump campaign concluded by claiming Harris’s record cannot be defended “because it is indefensible.”

The changes to the Democrats’ presidential ticket come after concerns mounted over Biden’s age and mental acuity after a debate against Trump last month. It also comes a week after Trump named Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) to be his running mate.

Harris has yet to name a running mate, but Govs. Andy Beshear (D-KY) and Roy Cooper (D-NC), among others, have been tossed around as possible Democratic vice presidential nominees.
