Trump asserts that 82% of Americans acknowledge the 2020 election as rigged

Former ‌President Donald Trump Claims 82% of the Country Believes‍ the 2020 Election was Rigged

Former President Donald Trump said ‌Saturday that “82% ⁢of the country understands” the 2020 presidential ⁢election, which he lost to Joe Biden, was rigged.

The front-runner for the 2024 Republican nomination made his oft-repeated claim that the previous presidential contest was stolen during ‍a campaign stop in Greensboro, North Carolina. The Tar Heel State is one of 15 that will hold primary elections on Super Tuesday.

“Do you ever notice they go after the people that want to find⁣ out where the cheating ⁣was?” Trump asked, ‍perhaps a reference to the criminal charges‌ he faces in Georgia and Washington, D.C., related to his alleged attempts ⁣to subvert the 2020 presidential election results. “And by the way, 82% of the country understands that it was a rigged election. You can’t have a country with that. A poll came out, 82%.”

The source and timing⁢ of the poll Trump cited ‌are unclear. However, in November 2021, the Public Religion Research Institute released the results of its American Values Survey, which included a section on⁢ extremism, conspiracies, and QAnon. That poll found that 82% of “Republicans who most trust Fox News” ⁤either “completely ⁣agree” or “mostly agree” that‍ the election‌ a year prior was stolen from Trump. That percentage among all respondents was just 31.

In the⁢ same survey last ⁢year, only 65% of the Republicans ⁢who⁤ said they most trust Fox News believed that the 2020 election was stolen from Trump, while the number among all ⁢respondents ‌increased to 32%.

After winning caucuses in Missouri and Idaho and ⁣sweeping ⁢delegates at Michigan’s Republican Party convention on Saturday, Trump is up to 244 delegates en route to the 1,215 needed to become the party’s presidential ⁣nominee. Should he hold⁢ on to his commanding lead over⁢ former South Carolina Gov.‍ Nikki Haley, he will advance to the general election, in which⁣ he is likely to face ⁣Biden again.

What do public opinion polls reveal about the extent of belief in election rigging ‍among Americans, particularly Republicans

Lost to Joe Biden, was rigged. This claim comes ⁣as‌ no surprise, as Trump has consistently cast doubt on the legitimacy of the election results since his defeat. However, the assertion that the majority of the country believes the election was rigged is not supported by any ⁣credible evidence.

It is worth noting that numerous courts,⁢ including the Supreme⁤ Court, have dismissed Trump’s legal ‌challenges and affirmed the validity of the election. Additionally, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) described the election as the “most secure in American history.”

Trump’s claim‍ of 82% believing in election rigging is an unsubstantiated and misleading statement. It⁤ is essential to‌ rely on verifiable facts when evaluating such⁣ assertions, particularly when they concern ⁢the democratic process.

Public opinion polls conducted after the election paint a different picture. A survey conducted by Reuters/Ipsos in November 2020 ‍found that only 52% of Republicans believed that Biden’s win was not legitimate. This number ⁣is far from the 82% claimed by Trump. Furthermore, an NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll from the same period reported that 77%⁢ of Americans believed ⁢the‌ election results were valid.

While⁤ it is true that a portion of⁤ the population may have concerns or doubts ⁤about‌ the election, it ⁢is crucial to separate factual reality from baseless claims. The constant repetition of⁣ unfounded allegations ‌undermines public⁣ trust in ‌democratic institutions and the electoral process.

Election ‌officials, ⁤both Republicans and Democrats, have declared that the election was ⁣conducted fairly and accurately. These officials, ⁢who are ⁣responsible⁢ for overseeing the process, have diligently addressed claims of fraud and ensured that accurate results were determined.

It is important to recognize that Trump’s claim about ‌election rigging serves a purpose beyond mere facts. ‍By perpetuating⁢ this narrative, he seeks to maintain loyalty among his⁤ supporters, undermine ⁢the legitimacy of the Biden presidency, and potentially lay the groundwork for a future political comeback.

However, the responsibility lies with the American people to critically evaluate such claims and rely on credible sources of information. Democracy thrives when citizens⁣ are actively engaged and hold their leaders accountable. Blind adherence to baseless assertions is damaging to⁢ the democratic process and weakens the foundation of our society.

Moving forward, it is crucial for individuals to seek⁢ out reliable information, engage in ⁤open dialogue, and support measures ⁣that reinforce the integrity of our elections. Democracy depends on the‌ trust⁣ and confidence ⁤of its citizens, ⁤and it is our duty to protect and⁤ uphold these essential values.
