Trump claims no ‘fighting’ at Arlington cemetery visit – Washington Examiner
Former President Donald Trump denied any allegations of conflict during his recent visit to Arlington National Cemetery, where he paid tribute on the third anniversary of the Abbey Gate bombing that resulted in the deaths of 13 U.S. service members during the Afghanistan withdrawal. Despite an Army statement confirming an “incident” involving a cemetery employee — who was reportedly “abruptly pushed aside,” though no charges were filed — Trump asserted via a post on Truth Social that no fighting occurred. He criticized President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, claiming they were responsible for the disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan and criticizing their absence from the event. Additionally, Trump expressed appreciation for the Gold Star families, emphasizing that his visit was a positive experience.
Trump claims no ‘fighting’ at Arlington cemetery visit
Former President Donald Trump denied a “conflict or ‘fighting’” occurred during his visit to Arlington National Cemetery last week after the Army confirmed an “incident” had occurred.
Trump visited the cemetery on the third anniversary of 13 U.S. service members being killed in the 2021 Abbey Gate bombing during the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan. The former president went to the cemetery at the invitation of the Gold Star families, who have defended his appearance. The Army said in a statement last week that a cemetery employee, who it claims was reminding participants of cemetery rules, was “abruptly pushed aside” but declined to press charges.
Trump, in a post on Truth Social on Tuesday, said no “conflict” had occurred and blasted President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris over the Afghanistan withdrawal.
“There was no conflict or ‘fighting’ at Arlington National Cemetery last week. It was a made up story by Comrade Kamala and her misinformation squad. She made it all up to make up for the fact that she and Sleepy Joe have BLOOD ON THEIR HANDS for the INCOMPETENT AFGHANISTAN Withdrawal — THE MOST EMBARRASSING DAY IN U.S. HISTORY!!! They should have been at Arlington, not on a beach or studying for a Debate,” Trump said.
The former president also commended the Gold Star families, saying the visit to Arlington National Cemetery “could not have been a nicer moment.”
“Thank you to my friends, the GREAT GOLD STAR FAMILIES, for revealing the TRUTH OF A BEAUTIFUL DAY OF HONOR. Could not have been a nicer moment — And there were no fights or problems, only in the heads of those that are destroying our Country! MAGA2024,” Trump added.
The Trump camp has downplayed the alleged incident during the visit, with Steven Cheung, the Trump campaign communications director, telling the Washington Examiner in a statement last week that there “was no physical altercation” and that the cemetery staffer was “clearly suffering from a mental health episode.”
While Trump visited the cemetery last week to mark the third anniversary of the Abbey Gate bombing, both Biden and Harris released statements honoring the dead U.S. service members but did not hold any public events that day.
