Former President Donald Trump is reportedly considering Elon Musk for an advisory position on policies related to border security and the economy if he is elected in November.
While formerly embracing aspects of both major political parties, Musk publicly shifted to the right in May 2022 when he tweeted that Democrats had “become the party of division & hate, so I can no longer support them.”
The X owner has been vocal about his disdain for policies pushed by Democrats, such as diversity, equity, and inclusion, and he has been very open about his disapproval of President Joe Biden. Recently going a step further, Musk has been hosting gatherings of elite business leaders from across the country with the intention of creating a powerful and organized front to defeat Biden in November, according to the Wall Street Journal.
The Washington Examiner reached out to both the Biden and Trump campaigns for comment.
In March, Trump attended one of Musk’s gatherings at billionaire investor Nelson Peltz’s Florida estate. The pair have reportedly grown friendlier since then, with Musk calling directly to Trump’s cellphone several times a month.
Musk and Peltz have worked together on creating a “data-driven project” to ensure election votes are fairly counted, the outlet reported. During the 2020 election, Trump alleged widespread voter fraud, but his own attorney general, Bill Barr, rejected those claims.
However, while Musk has crusaded against Biden, he has stopped short of endorsing Trump for president.

Musk previously served on a pair of White House business advisory councils until resigning in 2017 after Trump withdrew the U.S. from the Paris climate agreement.
If Musk is offered an advisory position, it would reportedly look similar to the role that former Marvel Chairman Isaac Perlmutter played in the Trump administration. Perlmutter worked in an advisory capacity for the Department of Veterans Affairs alongside two other of Trump’s associates from Mar-a-Lago.
