Trump makes rare spin room visit and suggests openness to a second debate
In a rare move, former President Donald Trump hit the spin room following his Tuesday night debate with Vice President Kamala Harris to do a bit of damage control.
Fast reactions on social media seemed to agree that Harris fared better Tuesday night, despite an apparent slant from ABC’s moderators, but the former president claimed victory for himself, in addition to already seeing a 2024 polling bump.
“I think that was the best debate I’ve ever, personally, had,” Trump stated before claiming that snap polls conducted by the campaign showed him beating Harris “92 to 6” and “88 to 11.”
Still, reporters pressed the former president on why, if he thinks he won the debate, did he make an unscheduled appearance in the spin room.

Trump instead attacked ABC’s moderators, who he claimed “were very unfair.”
“It basically was three-on-one, and I thought they were very unfair. The moderators, everybody did,” he claimed. “I assume the moderators would be bad, because that right there is the worst of all the news networks, in my opinion. And it always has been.”
Harris’s campaign immediately called for a second debate after Tuesday night’s affair, which the former president claimed as evidence of Harris losing.
And while he didn’t commit to a second debate with the vice president, he did say he would consider it.
“She lost tonight very badly. So they immediately call for a second debate, because they lost. So we’ll, you know, think about that,” he told reporters. “I thought she was not very good tonight.”
