Trump endorses Musk-backed Schimel in Wisconsin supreme court race – Washington Examiner

Trump endorses Musk-backed Schimel in high-stakes Wisconsin supreme court race

President Donald Trump endorsed conservative Wisconsin Supreme Court candidate Brad Schimel on Friday night, in a race that could tip the balance of the court.

The endorsement comes after numerous Republicans lobbied Trump to throw his weight behind Schimel, while Elon Musk has poured millions of dollars into the race. Early voting started on Tuesday.

“All Voters who believe in Common Sense should GET OUT TO VOTE EARLY for Brad Schimel,” Trump posted on Truth Social. “By turning out and VOTING EARLY, you will be helping to Uphold the Rule of Law, Protect our Incredible Police, Secure our Beloved Constitution, Safeguard our Inalienable Rights, and PRESERVE LIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL.”

The Supreme Court race will decide the balance of power in the state’s judicial system, where liberals hold a 4 to 3 majority.

Musk and his PACs have spent over $13 million on the race. The Department of Government Efficiency leader funded a door-knocking campaign, and is offering $100 to Wisconsin voters who sign or refer others to a petition “in opposition to activist judges.”

Schimel said he was honored to received Trump’s endorsement.

“I’m humbled and deeply honored to receive the endorsement of our President.” He added, “On April 1, Wisconsin conservatives must unite to restore objectivity to our Supreme Court and save our state like we saved our country in November.”

The conservative candidate for Wisconsin’s Supreme Court said in a March debate against liberal opponent Susan Crawford that he would hold Trump accountable if he violated the law.

“If President Trump or anyone defies Wisconsin law and I end up with a case in front of me, I’ll hold them accountable as I would anybody in my courtroom,” Schimel said.

Crawford’s camp was not surprised by Trump’s endorsement of Schimel, which came just days before the April 1 election.

“Schimel has spent his entire career on bent knee to right-wing special interests,” Derrick Honeyman, a campaign spokesman, told the New York Times. “We assumed he had this endorsement locked up months ago.”
