Trump supporters to gather in South Dakota amidst speculation about governor’s endorsement and VP candidacy.
RAPID CITY, S.D.—Governor Kristi Noem and Thousands of Fans Await President Trump’s Arrival at South Dakota GOP Rally
Excitement fills the air as Governor Kristi Noem and thousands of eager fans eagerly anticipate the arrival of former President Donald Trump at a sold-out South Dakota GOP rally on September 8. Speculation is rife that Governor Noem may endorse President Trump’s candidacy and even become his vice-presidential running mate.
“I don’t see her going any other direction,” says Trump supporter Jeb Bordewyk of nearby Piedmont, South Dakota.

While some believe that Governor Noem may announce her endorsement of President Trump, others doubt that he is ready to reveal his vice-presidential choice just yet. In a recent interview with Newsmax, Governor Noem stated that it was too early to engage in such discussions. However, she has expressed her willingness to accept an invitation from President Trump.
“I think he’s going to have an inspiring speech,” says Governor Noem. ”I’m thankful that he’s coming to our state.”
If Governor Noem does indeed endorse President Trump, she will join the ranks of only three other Republican governors who have publicly supported him in the 2024 presidential campaign: Alaska’s Mike Dunleavy, South Carolina’s Henry McMaster, and West Virginia’s Jim Justice. Interestingly, her endorsement would contradict the stance of South Dakota’s two U.S. Senators, John Thune and Mike Rounds, who have thrown their support behind Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina.
According to the RealClear Politics average, President Trump maintains a commanding lead in opinion polls, drawing almost 53 percent support. In comparison, his closest rivals, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, trail far behind with 14 percent and 6.6 percent support, respectively. All other GOP presidential hopefuls, including Senator Scott, garner less than 5 percent.
This rally marks President Trump’s first full public speech in several weeks, as legal troubles have occupied much of his time. Despite facing criminal indictments, which he denounces as “election interference,” the former president remains undeterred in his pursuit of becoming the Republican presidential nominee for the third time.
“We’ve invited many other people to come to our state and talk to us, and they keep saying how insignificant South Dakota is,” Governor Noem shares. “But what I love about President Trump is that he said, ‘I will be there.’ He doesn’t ever overlook the little people. He knows every single person in this country is important. And that’s why people support him.”
South Dakota, with its four electoral votes, often goes unnoticed by politicians. Its late primary election, scheduled for June 4, 2024, comes months after the early primary states like Iowa and New Hampshire. However, Governor Noem admires President Trump for his atypical approach to politics and his recognition of the importance of every individual.
Prior to President Trump’s speech at the “Monumental Leaders” rally, other GOP leaders will address the crowd. The event, benefiting the South Dakota GOP, holds great significance for the state and its residents.
