Trump hints he may skip GOP debates: ‘Nobody got my approval’
Former President Donald Trump is causing a stir again! He recently cast doubt on whether he will participate in the upcoming GOP debates.
Trump took to Truth Social to express his concerns, stating, “I see that everybody is talking about the Republican Debates, but nobody got my approval, or the approval of the Trump Campaign, before announcing them. When you’re leading by seemingly insurmountable numbers, and you have hostile Networks with angry, TRUMP & MAGA-hating anchors asking the ‘questions,’ why subject yourself to being libeled and abused?”
But that’s not all! The Republican National Committee has announced that the second debate will take place at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California. However, Trump is not happy about this, adding, “Also, the Second Debate is being held at the Reagan Library, the Chairman of which is, amazingly, Fred Ryan, Publisher of The Washington Post. NO!”
It’s not the first time Trump has considered skipping GOP debates. He boycotted a debate in Iowa during the 2016 GOP primary cycle before later losing the caucuses. He returned to the next debate. And during the 2020 general election, Trump skipped the second scheduled debate against then-candidate Joe Biden amid concerns about the COVID-19 rules and the moderator.
Despite all this, Trump remains the clear GOP front-runner, trouncing his nearest hypothetical rival, Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), by 29 percentage points in the latest RealClearPolitics polling aggregate.
