Trump praises SCOTUS, urges education reform off-script.
Former president Donald Trump received a standing ovation from a conservative parental-rights group’s annual conference as he praised the U.S. Supreme Court for its recent decisions on education and religious rights. However, it was his unexpected off-script remark that truly captivated the audience.
During his speech at the Joyful Warriors National Summit of Moms for Liberty, Trump declared, “I want to move our education system back to the states.” This proposal, which had stirred controversy during his presidency, was met with 30 seconds of applause and cheering.
Trump revealed that some people had advised him against discussing this topic, fearing it would be unpopular. But he boldly stated, “I don’t care. I hope everybody likes that because, otherwise, I just blew it.”
He expressed confidence in the states’ ability to handle education and highlighted the cost-saving benefits of eliminating the federal education bureaucracy. Trump also made several other education-related pledges during his hour-long speech, outlining his plans if he were to be reelected in 2024.
Trump’s speech was a highlight of the Moms for Liberty event, which has rapidly grown in popularity and now boasts 120,000 members in 45 states. The former president addressed the accusations of extremism and hate directed at the group, emphasizing their grassroots nature.
Three ‘Good’ Justices
One of the most celebrated moments of Trump’s speech was when he acknowledged his privilege of appointing three Supreme Court justices: Amy Coney Barrett, Brett Kavanaugh, and Clarence Thomas. He praised these “good” justices for their pivotal roles in historic decisions, contrasting them with presidents who were fortunate to appoint just one justice.
Trump commended the Supreme Court’s recent decision to block the government from paying off student loan debts, calling President Biden’s loan-payment plan a ploy to buy votes. He also highlighted the court’s ruling in favor of religious liberty, describing the past two days as significant victories.
Ending ‘Unlawful Discrimination’
In alignment with the Supreme Court’s ruling on race-based discrimination in college admissions policies, Trump pledged to eliminate all diversity, equity, and inclusion programs across the federal government. He also promised to direct the Department of Justice to pursue civil rights claims against any entity engaging in unlawful racial discrimination.
Trump expressed his commitment to restoring a society based on equality, liberty, and merit, remarking incredulously, “We’re back with merit–can you believe this? This happened yesterday!”
School ‘Reforms’ Incentivized
States and school districts will receive significant funding preferences if they implement a series of revolutionary reforms. These reforms include granting parents access to the entire curriculum taught in schools and implementing merit pay for teachers while abolishing teacher tenure for grades K-12.
Trump expressed concern over videos showing violence in schools and vowed to make schools safer for both teachers and students. He also promised to protect parents from being targeted by authorities when voicing their concerns to school boards.
Furthermore, Trump criticized the alleged weaponization of America’s intelligence agencies and justice system under the Biden administration, stating that corrupt individuals, including Joe Biden, have gotten away with it.
Speaking His Mind
Trump admitted that he has often held back his true thoughts about Biden out of respect for the presidency. However, due to what he perceives as political persecution by the Biden administration, he no longer feels the need to exercise restraint.
Referring to his own arrest in connection with records violations, Trump sarcastically remarked, “He recently ordered his top political opponent arrested. Oh wow, that’s me.”
Trump’s speech at the Moms for Liberty event left a lasting impression, showcasing his unwavering commitment to education and his determination to bring about change.
