Trump’s lead over DeSantis widens in crucial primary state: Poll.

Trump Leads DeSantis in New Hampshire Primary Poll

Former President Donald Trump is dominating the competition in a recent poll of New Hampshire primary voters, according to the St. Anselm College Survey Center. With a commanding 47% of support, Trump maintains a significant lead over his closest rival, Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-LF), who stands at 19%.

Wide Gap Among Major Competitors

Other major contenders, such as Chris Christie and Nikki Haley, trail far behind with 6% and 5% respectively. Meanwhile, several GOP contenders, including Gov. Doug Burgum (R-ND), former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, former Vice President Mike Pence, and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, are tied at 2%. A notable 10% of respondents remain undecided.

Despite facing legal battles, including a federal indictment from the Justice Department, Trump’s front-runner status for the 2024 GOP nomination remains unshaken, as indicated by the latest poll.

Perceived Threat to American Democracy

When asked which candidate voters believed posed the “biggest threat to American democracy,” 46% answered Trump, while only 11% identified DeSantis.

Biden Holds Edge in Hypothetical 2024 Election Rematch

In a hypothetical 2024 election rematch, President Joe Biden maintains an advantage over Trump, with 49% of respondents indicating they would vote for Biden compared to 40% for Trump. The poll surveyed 1,065 registered voters in New Hampshire from June 21-23.

New Hampshire’s Importance in the Early Election Cycle

New Hampshire remains a crucial battleground state for GOP presidential hopefuls in the early election cycle. Candidates must meet specific polling criteria set by the Republican National Committee, including obtaining at least 1% support in two national polls or early state polls from Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada, or South Carolina, or gaining 1% support in three national polls.

On the Democratic side, the Democratic National Committee’s decision to place South Carolina as the first nominating state has sparked concerns among New Hampshire lawmakers. Ray Buckley, chairman of the New Hampshire Democratic Party, and Chris Ager, chairman of the New Hampshire Republican Party, are determined to uphold the state’s century-old tradition of being at the forefront of the primary process. They fear that deviating from this tradition may jeopardize the state’s four electoral votes.
