President-elect Donald Trump has nominated former Representative Sean Duffy as the new transportation secretary. Duffy, who previously served as the U.S. representative for Wisconsin’s 7th Congressional District from 2010 until his resignation in 2019, has a background in law and media, having been a district attorney and co-hosted a Fox Business show. Trump’s announcement highlighted Duffy’s commitment to improving America’s infrastructure, emphasizing principles such as excellence and competitiveness, and mentioned plans to enhance national security related to transportation. This nomination marks Duffy as the second Fox News contributor to be appointed to a Cabinet position.

President-elect Donald Trump nominated former Rep. Sean Duffy as transportation secretary.
After appearing on several reality TV shows, on which he met his wife, Duffy served as a district attorney in Wisconsin from 2002 to 2010. He was elected as Wisconsin’s 7th Congressional District representative in 2010, a position he held for most of the decade until he resigned in 2019 to take care of his daughter, who suffers from Down syndrome. He has since served as a co-host with his wife on a Fox Business show and is a Fox News contributor.
His choice as transportation secretary makes him the second Fox News contributor to be picked for a Cabinet position. Trump announced the pick in a post on Truth Social.
“He will prioritize Excellence, Competence, Competitiveness and Beauty when rebuilding America’s highways, tunnels, bridges and airports,” Trump wrote. “He will ensure our ports and dams serve our Economy without compromising our National Security, and he will make our skies safe again by eliminating DEI for pilots and air traffic controllers.”
Trump gave a shout out to his wife, Rachel Campos-Duffy.
“The husband of a wonderful woman, Rachel Campos-Duffy, a STAR on FoxNews, and the father of nine incredible children, Sean knows how important it is for families to be able to travel safely, and with peace of mind,” he wrote.
The president-elect said that Duffy would help inaugurate “The Golden Age of Travel,” with a focus on “Safety, Efficiency, and Innovation.”
“Importantly, he will greatly elevate the Travel Experience for all Americans!” Trump concluded.
Duffy was a major Trump ally during his time in the House, supporting his agenda throughout.
Though his status as the second Fox News contributor to earn a Cabinet nomination is likely to draw ire, his lengthy experience in Congress will make his approval much less controversial than others, such as Secretary of Defense nominee Pete Hegseth and former Rep. Matt Gaetz, who has been tapped to be the next attorney general.
If approved, Duffy will take over from Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.
