Trump admits to errors made in first term.
President Donald Trump Reflects on Mistakes Made During First Term
In a recent interview with Fox News’ Mario Bartiromo, President Donald Trump opened up about the mistakes he made during his first term in office. He candidly admitted that many of these mistakes were a result of the people he chose to fill various roles in his administration.
When asked if there was anything he would do differently this time around, Trump responded, “The mistake would be people. I mean, I wouldn’t have put a guy like Bill Barr in – he was weak and pathetic.” He also mentioned his regret in appointing Jeff Sessions and Mark Esper, expressing his dissatisfaction with their performance.
Trump acknowledged that as a New Yorker, he was not familiar with the inner workings of Washington, D.C. and the people involved. He explained, “I never stayed overnight. Ever. And then all of a sudden, I’m the President of the United States and it’s like a different society. I didn’t know people, I became President.” However, he confidently stated that he now knows the people better than anyone else.
Did He ’Drain the Swamp’?
During the interview, Bartiromo brought up the criticism that Trump had not fulfilled his promise to ”drain the swamp” - a reference to his campaign pledge to eliminate corruption and entrenched establishment figures in Washington, D.C.
Trump responded to this criticism, saying, “You didn’t drain the swamp like you said you would, you didn’t drain the swamp.” This has been a common critique from conservative elements within the party who feel that Trump did not live up to his 2016 campaign promises.
Despite the challenges and mistakes, Trump remains confident in his ability to lead and make informed decisions. The interview provided valuable insights into his reflections on his first term and his plans for the future.
