Trump Organization sues Capital One for trying to ‘debank’ company

The Trump Organization has sued Capital One, accusing the banking company of terminating over 300 of the Trump Organization’s accounts “without cause.”

Eric Trump confirmed the filing of the lawsuit in a statement on X, revealing that the attempt to “debank” occurred in 2021, despite the company doing business with Capital One for over a decade. The son of President Donald Trump accused the banking company of attempting “a clear attack on free speech and free enterprise” in terminating these accounts, which also sought to undermine the Trump Organization’s success.

“By filing this lawsuit, we seek to hold Capital One accountable for the millions of dollars in damages they caused, not just to our company, but to the many dozens of properties, hundreds of tenants and thousands of Trump Organization employees who relied on these accounts for their livelihoods,” Eric Trump wrote on X.

Trump added that businesses like the Trump Organization should not face consequences for their political affiliations but that Capital One’s actions on the company set a “dangerous precedent.” As such, this new lawsuit is to ensure similar actions by banks are not taken in the future, the president’s son said.
