The orders will focus on immigration, a topic Trump has been adamant about fixing while campaigning for the presidency.

“He says he has almost 100 executive orders that will go a long way to securing the border again and also put the energy sector back in play,” Sen. Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) said Thursday on Fox & Friends.

However, the Oklahoma senator also cautioned that Trump’s executive orders could be reversed or undone if they aren’t backed up by congressional action.

“As he said, it’s not permanent,” Mullin said of the orders. “I’d like reconciliation so we can start making this up into legislation, so we can move forward.”

Axios reported that the incoming administration intends to reinstate Title 42, a policy Trump enacted during the COVID-19 pandemic to expel migrants at the southern border. President Joe Biden ended the policy in May 2023.

Separately, House Republicans are also working on legislation that would require asylum-seekers to “Remain in Mexico” until their court dates in the United States. Biden also ended the policy that was enacted under Trump’s first administration.

The Washington Examiner reached out to the Trump transition team for comment about the executive actions.

Trump and his wife, Melania Trump, visited Washington, D.C., on Wednesday to pay their respects to the late former President Jimmy Carter at the Capitol rotunda. The president-elect also met with GOP senators to strategize on a path forward to pass his agenda. Trump attended Carter’s funeral on Thursday, where he shook hands with his estranged former Vice President Mike Pence and had an animated conversation with former President Barack Obama.

The main disagreement is whether Republicans should focus on a one- or two-bill strategy through the budget reconciliation process. House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) supports one major bill despite his tight margin of control. Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) has pushed for two bills, prioritizing a border and energy bill first before a second bill focusing on taxes.

“What the president was very clear is he just wants results,” Mullin said. “He said he can wait if we can do one big, beautiful bill. He’d like to have one big, beautiful, beautiful bill. But if the House were to get bogged down, maybe we have to divide it up in two.”

Mullin added that he is “fine” with either strategy but wants to see results, too.

“Just as long as we deliver for the American people on securing the border, on energy independence, on getting the regulations rolled back and making sure that we have taxes that are permanent, so we don’t have a $4 trillion tax increase on the American people right now,” he said.
