Trump is set to unveil a compelling policy on contraception restrictions
Former President Donald Trump hinted at the possibility of restricting contraceptives during a televised interview in Pittsburgh. He mentioned plans to unveil a policy on the matter soon, implying it would be noteworthy. Trump indicated that state regulations would influence contraceptive bans. The Biden campaign reacted by sharing clips of the interview, criticizing Trump’s stance on birth control.
Former President Donald Trump shared he is looking at restricting contraceptives during a Pittsburgh television interview.
The interview aired on Tuesday showed KDKA political analyst Jon Delano asking the former president if he supports any restrictions on a person’s right to contraceptives.
“We’re looking at that and I’m going to have a policy on that very shortly, and I think it’s something you’ll find interesting,” Trump said. “I think it’s a smart decision. We’ll be releasing it very soon.”
Delano followed up by asking Trump if he supported any restrictions on contraceptives such as the morning-after pill. The former president said policies regarding contraception bans will come down to state rulings and that policies will look different state by state.
The Biden campaign team has sought to take advantage of the interview, posting clips of it on X. Biden campaign spokeswoman Sarafina Chitika said in a statement that the recent interview reveals that Trump “wants to go even further” than the overturning of Roe v. Wade by restricting birth control and emergency contraceptives.
“It’s not enough for Trump that women’s lives are being put at risk, doctors are being threatened with jail time, and extreme bans are being enacted with no exceptions for rape or incest,” Chitika said in the statement. “He wants to rip away our freedom to access birth control too.”
Later on Tuesday, Trump took to Truth Social to clarify his remarks from the interview and bash Democrats for what he called misinformation. “This is a Democrat fabricated lie, MISINFORMATION/DISINFORMATION, because they have nothing else to run on except FAILURE, POVERTY, AND DEATH,” Trump wrote.
“I DO NOT SUPPORT A BAN ON BIRTH CONTROL, AND NEITHER WILL THE REPUBLICAN PARTY!” Trump declared.
President Joe Biden and other Democratic candidates have clung to abortion policy this election cycle in the hopes of increasing voter turnout in their favor. A study released last month found that for 1 in 8 voters, abortion policy is the “most important” issue.

The Tuesday release of Trump’s interview comes almost a month after his series of interviews with Time. Time had asked Trump about his policy on the abortion pill mifepristone, to which Trump replied that he would release it “over the next week or two.”
Trump also reiterated the point that the country did not need a federal ban on abortion, instead maintaining that abortion policy should be decided by the states, not the federal government. He also told the magazine that decisions to prosecute those involved in abortions should be left up to the states.
