He emphasized his commitment to establishing an “iron dome missile defence shield” and eradicating what he refers to as “wokeness” from the military. Trump’s remarks reflect his determination to swiftly implement his agenda, which he has been vocal about throughout his campaign and post-election period. The rally served as a platform for him to reiterate these goals to his supporters.
Trump promises ‘iron dome missile defense shield’ and to get ‘wokeness’ out of military
While on the campaign trail and after his November presidential election victory, President-elect Donald Trump has been vocal about his desire to get started quickly on the first day of his second term. During a campaign rally Sunday at Capitol One Arena in Washington, D.C., he reiterated these objectives, elaborating on other goals he plans to accomplish, two of which concern the country’s defense and national security. Trump vowed to eliminate “wokeness” from the military and order the construction of an “iron dome missile defense shield.”
His announced plans for both were met with thunderous applause from the thousands in attendance.
“I will direct our military to begin construction of the great iron dome missile defense shield, which will all be made in the U.S.A.,” Trump declared. “And we will get wokeness the hell out of our military immediately and make it like it used to be.”
The president-elect did not provide any details or a time frame for implementing these orders. He merely stated them, along with several other objectives. Both statements demonstrate Trump’s commitment to his promises as the president-elect promoted both initiatives during his presidential campaign.
Additionally, in July 2024, building an iron dome, similar to the defense weapons system deployed by Israel used to shoot down missiles, drones, or any other aerial threats, was announced as part of the Republican Party’s new political platform, listed 8th on the list of political objectives.
“Prevent World War Three, restore peace in Europe and in the Middle East, and build a great iron dome missile defense shield over our entire country,” read the platform objective. “All made in America.”
So far, no specific details have been provided about this weapons system.
Also, on the campaign trail, Trump regularly derided the left-wing political ideologies implemented among the nation’s fighting forces. Frequently, Trump mentioned “woke generals” who he claimed have decreased the effectiveness of the U.S. military. The president-elect’s nominees to lead the FBI, Kash Patel, and the Pentagon, Pete Hegseth, have stated their desires for military reform. Hegseth was particularly critical of the “woke” ideologies’ impact on military preparedness and effectiveness.
“Any general that was involved, general, admiral, whatever, that was involved in any of the DEI woke s***, has got to go,” Hegseth said on a podcast. “Either you’re in for warfighting, and that’s it. That’s the only litmus test we care about.”
It is believed that if or when Hegseth gets confirmed, the Trump administration will officially start eliminating “wokeness.”
