Trump cannot be sued for his election claims due to presidential immunity.

Pennsylvania Judge Rules⁤ Trump Immune from Lawsuit Over Election Comments

A Pennsylvania judge has ruled that former President Donald Trump is immune from being sued ‌over ⁢comments he made regarding the 2020 election before leaving the White House.

“Other legal proceedings may ⁣examine the propriety of his statements and actions while he was the President and whether, as the plaintiffs in this and other cases‌ contend, it was this conduct which served as the actual threat to our democracy,”

– Judge Michael Erdos

Philadelphia County Court of Common Pleas Judge Michael Erdos ‌stated that Trump is entitled to presidential immunity, ⁤regardless ⁣of the validity of his allegations. During his time in office, Trump expressed doubt about ⁤the ⁤reliability of the⁤ election results, alleging fraud⁤ in Pennsylvania and other states.

Erdos clarified that Trump’s immunity covers one of his tweets and additional comments ⁤made from the ‌White House, as they were public and addressed a matter of great public concern. However, the ruling does not extend‌ to Trump’s election‍ claims made after leaving the presidency, including a letter he wrote to the House Jan. 6 committee last October.

The lawsuit against Trump was filed by James Savage, a Pennsylvania election worker who accused Trump of defaming him by alleging that Joe Biden stole the 2020 election. Savage ⁢claimed that these accusations caused him significant stress, resulting in death threats and two heart attacks.

Trump’s‌ legal spokeswoman, Alina Habba, expressed satisfaction with the court’s decision, stating that it affirms the President’s discretion to address election integrity without fear of liability. ‍She expects‍ the remaining claims ⁤by Savage to be similarly dismissed as‍ meritless.
