Trump denies NY lawsuit, accuses AG of defamation.
Former President Donald Trump vehemently denies the allegations made by New York Attorney General Letitia James, accusing him of inflating his net worth and engaging in financial fraud.
“In the NYS A.G. Letitia James case, I was targeted, given no jury, no extensions, no commercial division, no constitutional rights, no anything! The Democrat judge hates Trump with a passion,” he wrote on Truth Social.
“The thing I have is a great case based on phenomenal numbers that show a net worth of billions of dollars more than she viciously & falsely claimed, very little debt, big cash, a powerful disclaimer clause, paid off loans, no defaults, ‘happy’ banks, great assets. I was defamed by NYS—election interference!”
Letitia James has filed a multimillion-dollar civil lawsuit against President Trump and his two children, seeking to prohibit him from conducting business or acquiring real estate in New York for five years.
Furthermore, she aims to prevent him and his children from holding high-level executive positions in any New York company.
Additionally, she is seeking $250 million in penalties.
The trial for this case is scheduled for early October.
Summary Judgment and Testimony
In a recent court filing, Letitia James urged the judge to grant a summary judgment on one of the seven claims she has made against President Trump.
She argued that there is an “overwhelming amount of evidence” proving that President Trump committed fraud and provided false statements to bankers, inflating his wealth by anywhere between $812 million and $2.2 billion each year.
“While this is just the tip of a much larger iceberg of deception Plaintiff is prepared to expose at trial–which would result in carving off billions more from Mr. Trump’s net worth–it is more than sufficient to permit this Court to rule as a matter of law that each SFC from 2011 to 2021 was false or misleading,” Letitia James wrote.
On the same day, President Trump’s lawyers released the nearly 500-page transcript of a seven-hour-long interview that the former president gave during his deposition for the case in April.
During the deposition, President Trump was questioned extensively about the management and dealings of the Trump Organization, providing detailed information about the value of his properties.
“I never got a default notice. I paid interest every quarter, every month even before it was due, if it came on a holiday,” he said, testifying that the banks and lawyers they worked with had profited and were satisfied with the deals.
He also stated that his “brand” value increased while he was president but deliberately refrained from making any deals, not because it would have been illegal, but because he believed it was unethical. He cited George Washington as an example, who kept separate desks for business and state matters.
President Trump’s lawyers have requested the dismissal of the case, arguing that the statute of limitations has expired and that the prosecution has not provided evidence of harm.
“The undisputed record further establishes his companies timely paid hundreds of millions of dollars in interest to their lenders and never defaulted on a loan or even been late on a loan payment during the entire 15+ year time period the NYAG has sought to scrutinize in this action,” they wrote, emphasizing the absence of intent to defraud.
