Trump reiterates campaign trail promise of no tax on tips at Las Vegas rally
President Donald Trump signaled on Saturday that he would follow through on a promise he made on the campaign trail in 2024, specifically eliminating taxes on tipped wages.
Speaking at his first rally since being inaugurated as the 47th president and after signing a flurry of executive orders throughout the week, Trump vowed to make tips for tipped employees tax-free, saying they will be “100% yours.”
“We’re going to get it for you: no tax on tips,” Trump said to applause from the crowd at Circa Resort and Casino in downtown Las Vegas, Nevada.
“So if you’re a restaurant worker, a server, a valet, a bellhop, a bartender, or one of my caddies … or any other worker who relies on tipped income, your tips will be 100% yours,” the president added.
Trump’s comments follow numerous references to the policy proposal on the campaign trail and, more recently, during one of his several Inauguration Day speeches.
“Can you remember that little statement about tips?” he asked during an Inauguration Day speech. “Anybody remember that little statement? I think we won Nevada because of that statement.”
At the same rally Saturday afternoon, Trump also addressed his win in the Silver State in the 2024 election, which he won over Kamala Harris by over 45,000 votes, and predicted more Republican wins in the state that had voted Democratic the past three presidential elections.
“I want to come to Nevada to pay my respects because this is the only Republican win of the state in decades, and it was a very big landslide,” he said.
“But I think Republicans are going to win a lot now,” Trump added.
