Trump criticizes DeSantis amidst Florida hurricane management.
Former President Donald Trump Takes Aim at Ron DeSantis During Hurricane Crisis
The state of Florida faced a major crisis as Hurricane Idalia, a near-Category 4 storm, caused severe flooding and extensive damage. While Governor Ron DeSantis focused on managing the state’s response, former President Donald Trump took the opportunity to criticize him.
Trump, who has been vocal about his presidential ambitions, claimed that DeSantis would drop out of the race to run against Rick Scott for Senate. DeSantis’ team quickly dismissed these rumors, stating that Trump was panicking due to DeSantis’ strong debate performance and growing momentum.
As the hurricane hit, DeSantis shifted his attention to the crisis at hand, leading to a temporary silence from his political operation. However, Trump continued to target DeSantis on social media, sharing claims, videos, and online poll numbers that showed Trump leading in the Republican Party presidential primary.
One of Trump’s accusations was that DeSantis had approved a significant increase in Florida’s electricity rates. However, the governor’s press secretary clarified that the Public Service Commission, not DeSantis, is responsible for setting rates, and energy costs have been rising since Biden took office.
While the people of Florida dealt with the aftermath of the hurricane, Trump emphasized that he received more votes than DeSantis in the state. However, it’s important to note that DeSantis was on a midterm ballot, while Trump was on a presidential ballot.
Trump also shared a Daily Mail article that claimed a super PAC supporting DeSantis had closed due to donor concerns. However, an expert in FEC filings mocked the defunct PAC, highlighting its lack of legitimacy.
lol…I guess it’s a more eye-catching headline than ‘Unauthorized DeSantis ScamPAC that paid its founder 75% of the $1,621 it raised folds, will now support Trump with the $57 dollars it has left’ pic.twitter.com/pAapDkmCJh

The DeSantis camp had previously warned about a PAC using his name without permission to raise funds. Legal counsel for DeSantis sent a letter to donors, clarifying that the PAC was unauthorized and aimed to exploit DeSantis’ popularity.
DeSantis’ Communications Director responded to the Daily Mail report, stating that they were aware of the scam PAC and were glad it was no longer attempting to deceive donors. They emphasized DeSantis’ fundraising success and his strong debate performance, expressing confidence in their campaign’s momentum.
