Trump reacts to Biden dropping out: ‘Not fit to run for President’
Former President Donald Trump reacted to President Joe Biden announcing he would not seek reelection by claiming that Biden was “not fit to run for president.”
Biden announced he would drop out of the campaign Sunday, after weeks to pressure from within the Democratic Party, and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris to replace him at the top of the ticket. Trump issued a statement on Truth Social Sunday, adding that Biden is also “not fit to serve” along with not being fit to run for a second term.
“Crooked Joe Biden was not fit to run for President, and is certainly not fit to serve – And never was! He only attained the position of President by lies, Fake News, and not leaving his Basement. All those around him, including his Doctor and the Media, knew that he wasn’t capable of being President, and he wasn’t – And now, look what he’s done to our Country, with millions of people coming across our Border, totally unchecked and unvetted, many from prisons, mental institutions, and record numbers of terrorists,” Trump said.
“We will suffer greatly because of his presidency, but we will remedy the damage he has done very quickly. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” Trump added.
Biden’s decision not to run for a second term comes weeks after a disastrous debate against Trump, which added to concerns over the president’s age and mental acuity. The president had also trailed in most polls to Trump nationally and in key battleground states.
Biden is the first incumbent to not seek a second term since then-President Lyndon Baines Johnson did so in 1968. After Johnson decided against running for a second term, his vice president, Hubert Humphrey, was the Democratic nominee, but lost to former Vice President Richard Nixon.
The uncertainty with the Democratic Party’s ticket comes less than a month before the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. The DNC is scheduled for Aug. 19-22.
