Trump announces winner of first GOP debate
Former President Donald Trump Reveals Winner of First GOP Presidential Debate
In a highly anticipated GOP presidential debate, former President Donald Trump made a surprising revelation about who he believed emerged as the winner.
Tech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy stole the show with his effusive praise for the former president. As the debate unfolded, Ramaswamy boldly declared, “I’ll just speak the truth. President Trump, I believe, was the best president of the 21st century.” The crowd erupted in cheers, affirming his statement.
“Your claim that Donald Trump is motivated by vengeance and grievance would be a lot more credible,” Ramaswamy told former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, “if your campaign were not based on vengeance and grievance against one man,” referring to President Trump.

Trump wasted no time in sharing Ramaswamy’s powerful endorsement on his social media platform, Truth Social. He posted a clip of Ramaswamy’s comment and wrote, “This answer gave Vivek Ramaswamy a big WIN in the debate because of a thing called TRUTH. Thank you Vivek!”
Ramaswamy’s defense of the former president was prompted by an attack from Chris Christie during the debate. Christie criticized Trump’s conduct, stating that “someone’s got to stop normalizing this conduct … the conduct is beneath the office of president of the United States.”
Later, Ramaswamy took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to address the criticism. He posted, “if folks at home want to watch a bunch of people blindly bash Trump, they can just flip the channel and watch MSNBC right now. But I’m not running for President of MSNBC, I’m running for President of the United States.”
While Trump opted out of the debate, he engaged in a pre-recorded interview with former Fox News host Tucker Carlson. The interview covered a wide range of topics and garnered over 250 million impressions on X.
President Trump explained his decision to skip the debate, saying, “Do I sit there for an hour or two hours, whatever it’s going to be, and get harassed by people that shouldn’t even be running for president? Should I be doing that at a network that isn’t particularly friendly to me?”
Post-debate polls indicated that Ramaswamy was one of the top-performing candidates, facing attacks from multiple contenders. He advocated for a Trump-like agenda and openly criticized the multiple Trump indictments, setting himself apart from the rest.
Ramaswamy was also the first GOP candidate to raise his hand in support of Trump as the party’s nominee, even if he is convicted on the charges he’s facing. All candidates, except for former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, followed suit.
Ramaswamy even made a bold plea to former Vice President Mike Pence, urging him to join in the commitment to pardon Donald Trump. The absence of President Trump in the debate allowed several candidates to target him, keeping him in the spotlight throughout the event. He referred to the other candidates as “Super PAC puppets” and asserted that he was the only one not influenced by special interests.
One contentious moment arose when the topic of providing more funding to Ukraine and Israel was discussed. Trump controversially stated, “Ukraine is not a priority for the United States of America.” Former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley swiftly responded, asserting, “You have no foreign policy experience, and it shows.”
However, President Trump’s comment came just hours before he was booked into the Fulton County Jail on multiple charges. His mugshot quickly circulated across various media outlets, marking a significant turn of events.
Despite the circumstances, the former president seized the opportunity to make his very first post on X, or Twitter, in quite some time.
