Trump reveals Zelensky asked for more weapons in Vatican meeting – Washington Examiner
In a recent revelation, former President Donald Trump disclosed that during a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the Vatican, Zelensky requested additional military assistance. Trump noted that this request is not new, as Zelensky has been asking for more weapons for three years. Following their meeting, Trump expressed disappointment regarding recent Russian drone attacks on Ukraine, which occured shortly after their discussion. He called for Russian President Vladimir Putin to cease hostilities and engage in negotiations, indicating that a framework for a deal between the U.S. and Ukraine already exists. This meeting was meaningful as it marked the first in-person conversation between trump and Zelensky since a high-profile exchange at the White House earlier in the year.
Trump reveals Zelensky asked for more weapons in Vatican meeting
President Donald Trump revealed that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky asked him for more weapons during their meeting in the Vatican before Pope Francis’s funeral.
“He [Zelensky] told me that he needs more weapons, but he’s been saying that for three years. He needs more weapons and we’re going to see what happens. I want to see what happens with respect to Russia,” Trump told reporters on Sunday night.
Trump added that he is “very disappointed” with Russia, particularly its recent drone attacks on Ukraine that were launched hours after his meeting with Zelensky. Six regions of Ukraine recorded damage from the strikes.
The U.S. president urged Russian President Vladimir Putin to “stop shooting, sit down, and sign a deal.” Trump said the United States and Ukraine have the “confines” of a deal drafted.
Trump’s meeting with Zelensky just minutes before the start of the funeral on Saturday was the first face-to-face discussion between the two leaders after their fiery clash in the Oval Office earlier this year. In a now-viral photo, Trump and Zelensky were seen huddled together inside the surroundings of the Vatican.
On Sunday, Trump characterized the meeting as “good” before commenting on the backdrop, which he called “beautiful” and quipped that it was the “nicest office” he’s ever seen.
