Trump: Ukraine in NATO? Absolutely crazy.
Trump Claims Biden is “Compromised” and Opposes Ukraine’s NATO Membership
Former President Donald Trump has made bold allegations against President Joe Biden, suggesting that he is ”compromised” due to his connections to Ukraine. In a video posted on his campaign’s official Twitter account on July 20, Trump expressed his strong opposition to Ukraine’s potential admission into NATO.
The timing of Trump’s statement coincided with Republican lawmakers revealing an FBI form that contained an unverified allegation from a confidential source in 2020. The source claimed that bribes were paid to Biden and his son Hunter by Mykola Zlochevsky, the CEO of Ukrainian energy company Burisma. The White House has dismissed these allegations as debunked claims.
Trump’s remarks also come after Biden’s involvement in discussions regarding Ukraine’s potential NATO membership. Ukraine has been actively seeking to join the political and military alliance that promotes democracy. However, Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed concerns about NATO’s expansion into Ukraine, viewing it as a threat to Russia’s security.
“Under the circumstances, the notion that we would even consider admitting Ukraine into NATO at this time is completely unhinged,” Trump stated.
The former Republican president went on to suggest that the current Democratic president is unfit and incapable of making wise decisions for the United States. The White House has previously released statements affirming Biden’s fitness for the presidency based on a medical examination.
“The last thing that this incompetent administration should be doing is risking war with a nuclear-armed Russia or China or other countries. We have somebody that doesn’t have a clue representing us,” Trump asserted.
Last week, Biden acknowledged that now may not be the right time for Ukraine to join NATO, considering the ongoing war with Russia. The United States has provided significant aid to Ukraine since the start of the hostilities in February 2022.
During a recent summit, NATO expressed support for Ukraine’s eventual admission into the alliance but did not provide a clear timeline or pathway for this to happen.
