Trump optimistic about LIV-PGA merger: ‘Great for golf!’

Former President Donald Trump Speaks Favorably of Controversial LIV Golf and PGA Tour Merger

In an appearance on Andrew Giuliani’s radio show, former President Donald Trump expressed his support for the highly debated merger between LIV Golf and PGA Tour. As an avid golfer himself, Trump believes that the union of these golfing powerhouses will ultimately be a positive development. However, he did acknowledge the possibility that the merger may not succeed.

“Well, I told a lot of golfers, ‘take the money and run,’ because, in my opinion, there’ll be a merger,” Trump stated, presenting three potential outcomes. “It’ll either merge, it’ll work, or it won’t work.”

Trump emphasized the importance of seizing the financial opportunity for golfers, regardless of the merger’s outcome. He pointed out that many talented golfers were offered substantial sums of money but declined, only to later regret their decision when the merger was announced.

“But they should have,” Trump added. “They should have listened to me. I said there’ll be a merger; that was my opinion. But even if there wasn’t, even if it failed, the money was upfront.”

Furthermore, Trump commended LIV Golf, a Saudi Arabian sports investment, despite the controversy surrounding their relationship. He expressed confidence in their ability to make significant contributions to the sport.

“The Saudis are very, very good people,” Trump affirmed. “I know them very well. They’ll do; I think they’re gonna do a great job. The tour had a chance to do some great things with them, and they turned them down, and now they’re paying a pretty rough price. But it wasn’t handled well by the Tour, that I can tell you. And I think ultimately, though, it’s going to be very big and very strong and very good for golf.”

Trump’s support for the merger between LIV Golf and PGA Tour is not surprising, considering his previous hosting of LIV Golf tournaments on his own golf courses and his prediction of a merger as early as last year.
