Trump has decided on attending the first Republican debate and will reveal his decision next week.
Former President Donald Trump’s Decision on Attending Republican Presidential Debate
Former President Donald Trump has made his decision on whether or not to attend the first Republican presidential debate. However, he has chosen to keep it under wraps until next week, creating anticipation among his supporters and critics alike.
In an exclusive interview with Newsmax’s Eric Bolling, Trump revealed that he had already made up his mind regarding his participation in the primary debate. The conversation between the former president and Bolling delved into the pros and cons of attending the event, showcasing Trump’s careful consideration of both options.
Controversy Surrounding the Loyalty Pledge
One major point of contention discussed during the interview was the requirement for candidates to sign a loyalty pledge, committing to support the eventual GOP nominee. Trump firmly stated that he would not sign such a pledge, citing his reservations about endorsing certain individuals.
“I wouldn’t sign the pledge. Why would I sign a pledge for people I wouldn’t endorse?” Trump expressed. “There are three or four people on that debate stage that I wouldn’t endorse.”
When pressed by Bolling to reveal the names of these individuals, Trump declined, choosing not to insult them publicly. However, he emphasized that these candidates were unlikely to gain significant traction in the race.
Trump also raised concerns about low-polling candidates who might harbor hostility towards him, speculating that they would ask him “nasty questions” during the debate. He predicted that if he decided not to attend, figures like former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and former Vice President Mike Pence would accuse him of cowardice.
“I did a CNN town hall, which was incredibly hostile. I performed exceptionally well, to the point that they fired the head of CNN over it,” Trump shared. “So, it’s not about guts; it’s about intelligence. But we will reveal our decision next week.”
As the anticipation builds, supporters and critics eagerly await Trump’s official announcement regarding his participation in the first Republican presidential debate.
