He took to Truth Social on Monday with a series of posts lashing out at his critics, particularly H.R. McMaster, who served as national security adviser during Trump’s first term.

“H.R. McMaster is a weak and totally ineffective loser!” Trump posted in all caps.

That was a response to McMaster’s own social media post in which the retired general accused Trump of piling pressure on Zelensky while “coddling” Vladimir Putin. McMaster also tackled Trump on CBS’s 60 Minutes, saying the Russian president loved the spectacle.

“Vladimir Putin couldn’t be happier,” said McMaster, now a CBS News contributor. “Because what he sees is all of the pressure on Zelensky, all of the pressure on Ukraine, and no pressure on him.”

McMaster was replaced as national security adviser by John Bolton in 2018.

Trump, who has a long history of hurling insults at his rivals, also restated his case that the United States should be more concerned with domestic affairs and less concerned about foreign ones.

“We should spend less time worrying about Putin, and more time worrying about migrant rape gangs, drug lords, murderers, and people from mental institutions entering our Country – So that we don’t end up like Europe!” he wrote.

In yet another post, Trump said he was the only president who gave none of Ukraine’s land to Russia — though Zelensky disputes that characterization.

Russia invaded Georgia during former President George W. Bush’s administration, annexed Crimea during Barack Obama’s presidency, and invaded Ukraine again during former President Joe Biden’s administration.

However, Zelensky said during Friday’s disastrous Oval Office meeting with Trump that Putin agreed to a ceasefire in Ukraine in 2019, while Trump was president, and subsequently violated it. That appeared to be a rebuttal of Trump’s claims to be a president who kept Ukraine safe.

“After that, he broke the ceasefire, he killed our people, and he didn’t exchange prisoners,” Zelensky said. “We signed the exchange of prisoners. But he didn’t do it.”

That statement led to Vice President JD Vance’s accusation that Zelensky was being disrespectful, beginning the argument that was seen around the world over the weekend.

Trump has since faced accusations that he is a supporter of Putin and has abandoned Ukraine, which his team strongly denies.

“We are trying to bring it to an end — the way you bring it to an end is you get Russia to the table to talk,” Secretary of State Marco Rubio told CNN. “When you start talking about that aggressively — the president’s a deal maker, he’s made deals his entire life — you’re not going to get people to the table. And so you start to perceive that maybe Zelensky doesn’t want a peace deal.”
