Trump Sues Ex-Attorney Michael Cohen

EXCLUSIVE: According to Fox News Digital, former US President Donald Trump is suing Michael Cohen, his ex-lawyer, for more than $500 million in a federal lawsuit in the US District Court for the Southern District of Florida. The lawsuit alleges that Cohen breached his fiduciary duty, engaged in misconduct, and violated the contractual terms of a confidentiality agreement signed during his employment with Trump. The lawsuit accuses Cohen of spreading falsehoods about Trump, resulting in reputational harm, and ignoring cease and desist orders. Cohen’s attorney, Lanny Davis, sees the suit as a form of intimidation and harassment.

The lawsuit relates to Cohen’s past statements about his role working for Trump, including the arrangement of hush money payments made to adult film actress Stormy Daniels and ex-Playboy model Karen McDougal ahead of the 2016 presidential election. In 2018, Cohen pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced to three years in prison. Cohen also pleaded guilty to tax evasion, making false statements to Congress, and making false statements to a financial institution. Trump pleaded not guilty to related charges of falsifying business records in a Manhattan court.

The lawsuit claims that the money Cohen received was fraudulently misrepresented, and he converted $74,000 of Trump’s business property. The lawsuit cites Cohen’s book, “Disloyal,” in which he allegedly admits to “loading up” and “sneakily upping [his] bonus” to “counter screw” Trump. Cohen resigned from his position as counsel for the Trump Organization in January 2017 but continued to represent the former President personally until June 2018.

The suit further alleges that Cohen violated his continuing fiduciary obligations as an attorney by making improper, self-serving, and malicious statements about his former client, family members, and business. The complaint demands that Cohen compensates Trump for actual, compensatory, incidental, and punitive damages, which are expected to significantly exceed $500,000,000.
