Trump suggests Biden should be drug tested before debate and says he’ll take one too – Washington Examiner

Former President ‌Donald Trump has suggested ⁢that President⁣ Joe Biden should undergo a drug test before their upcoming debate, a stance he ‌has taken publicly on social media. Trump, who⁣ also agreed ‌to take a drug test himself, ⁤has‍ often accused Biden of using performance-enhancing drugs, though these claims have not⁣ been substantiated⁣ and ‍are dismissed‌ by the Biden campaign. Trump’s‍ accusations have been a consistent element of his rhetoric, originally surfacing during the 2020 campaign. The Biden campaign views these accusations as typical‌ of Trump’s confrontational and unsubstantiated attacks. Biden’s campaign co-chairman ⁣Mitch Landrieu responded to‍ Trump’s provocations by highlighting a recent instance where Trump questioned Biden’s‍ mental fitness but then struggled to recall his own⁢ doctor’s‍ name. Despite the controversy,⁣ Landrieu emphasized that ⁤Biden would be ready and unaffected by Trump’s comments at the debate.

Former President Donald Trump suggested President Joe Biden should be drug tested before their debate and agreed to take one himself.

Trump and Republicans have long accused Biden of using performance-enhancing drugs to appear more agile, allegations the White House has repeatedly denied. The former president usually limited these suggestions to jokes, but he upped the ante Monday when he suggested that he and Biden should undergo drug tests before their debate Thursday.

“DRUG TEST FOR CROOKED JOE BIDEN??? I WOULD, ALSO, IMMEDIATELY AGREE TO ONE!!!” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social.

The Biden campaign dismissed Trump’s accusation, referring to remarks made by Biden campaign cochairman Mitch Landrieu in an appearance on Meet the Press on Sunday.

“Trump’s going to talk trash like that all the time because that’s what he does,” he said. “The other day, you may remember, he was trying to question our president’s mental acuity, and he could not remember the name of his own doctor, so tell President Trump, bring whatever he’s got — President Biden will be standing there, ready for him.”

Though perhaps his most straightforward call for Biden to be drug tested, Trump has been toying with the idea since the 2020 campaign.

At the Minnesota Republican Party’s annual Lincoln Reagan Dinner in May, Trump said Biden was going to be “so jacked up” for the debate, alleging that he was “high as a kite” during his State of the Union Address. He also joked that he would demand a drug test before the debate.

In previous statements, the Biden campaign has denied the president uses any drugs. In an April statement to Forbes, Biden campaign spokesman Ammar Moussa called Trump’s accusations “a bizarre outburst” meant to distract from his policies.

Other Republicans have made similar demands as Trump’s, with Rep. Ronny Jackson (R-TX), a former White House physician, demanding Biden take a drug test before the presidential debate.

“You know, he’s going to be Camp David for a full week before the debate. Part of that is probably experimenting with, you know, just getting the doses just right,” the Texas Republican said in an appearance on Fox News’s Sunday Morning Futures With Maria Bartiromo.

“Because, you know, they have to treat his cognition. They have to give him something to help him think straighter. They have to give him something to wake him up, you know, to for his alertness. And then, you know, he’s been agitated, we see that all the time,” he added. “And that’s a common symptom of signs of the cognitive disorder he seems to be suffering from. And so, they’re probably going to give him something to take off the edge of that as well.”
