Trump Supporters Wrong To Believe DeSantis Has Power To Block Trump Arrest, Says Ben Shapiro
Ben Shapiro has said that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is powerless to prevent Donald Trump from being arrested if he is indicted. Shapiro, a Harvard-trained lawyer and Daily Wire co-founder, explained that a state governor can review an extradition request if there is a technical flaw in the document, but not if the merits of the underlying case are unsound. Referring to such requests, Shapiro clarified that the Constitution requires the extradition of persons who committed crimes in other states, unless the request documents are not in order. Shapiro added that the indictment case against Trump, brought by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, is frivolous and politically motivated, but noted that criticisms should be addressed to the DA responsible.
DeSantis voiced his opinion against the indictment of Trump, but Trump and his followers remain under the impression that DeSantis can block a prospective arrest on a New York City warrant. This belief is without merit, according to Shapiro, and is more harmful than helpful to Trump’s candidacy. Shapiro concluded that Governor DeSantis cannot intervene in any extradition request for Trump, even though he is one of the possible 2024 White House rivals for the former president.
