Additionally, he made an appearance at Trump’s joint session of Congress, where he honored a young cancer patient by making him an honorary Secret Service member.
Trump swears in new Secret Service director charged with protecting his life
President Donald Trump administered the oath of office to new Secret Service Director Sean Curran on Monday evening at the White House.
Curran previously served as the head of Trump’s Secret Service detail and personally shielded the president with his body following the failed attempt on Trump’s life in Butler, Pennsylvania, last summer.
Curran was photographed standing to Trump’s left as the president, dripping blood from his face, was rushed from the stage in Butler with his fist raised in the air.
The new Secret Service director faced tough questioning about the Secret Service’s actions on and leading up to the Butler assassination attempt during his Senate confirmation hearing last month. That event led to significant reforms within the agency, and Curran has stated continued improvements to the Secret Service as a core pillar of his mission as director.

“I brought in an outside expert from the intelligence community to take a look at our intelligence apparatus,” he told lawmakers at the time. “I feel that strongly about what we are doing and where I want to take our intelligence divisions to — and that’s why I brought a true pro from the intelligence community to take a look at that and advise me on how we can do things differently and build more relationships with the ICE community. It’s that important.”
Curran also made an appearance at Trump’s address to a joint session of Congress last Tuesday night. At the time, Curran made D.J. Daniel, a 13-year-old cancer patient who dreams of being a police officer, an honorary Secret Service member.
