Trump sues E. Jean Carroll for CNN remarks.

Former President Donald Trump Files Counterclaim Against E. Jean Carroll

Former President Donald Trump has filed a counterclaim against writer E. Jean Carroll, accusing her of defamation after winning a civil trial against him last month.

Carroll has made allegations that Trump raped her during a 1990s encounter at a New York City department store, which Trump vehemently denies.

In May, a jury found Trump liable for sexual abuse and defamation, awarding Carroll $5 million, but did not find him liable for rape.

Trump filed a counterclaim on Tuesday, stating that Carroll is guilty of defamation for persistently claiming he raped her despite the jury’s verdict.

The counterclaim, known as Carroll II, is one of two additional lawsuits Carroll has pending against Trump, with the first scheduled for trial next year.

In an interview on CNN, Carroll was asked about the jury’s finding that Trump was not liable for rape in Carroll II. She disregarded the verdict and insisted, “oh yes he did, oh yes he did,” according to Trump’s counterclaim.

The counterclaim also alleges that Carroll approached Trump’s lawyer and said, “He did it and you know it.”

Trump’s counterclaim argues that Carroll’s false statements were made with malice and ill will, intending to harm his reputation despite the jury’s verdict.

The counterclaim asserts that Carroll’s accusations of rape, which contradict the jury’s verdict in Carroll II, constitute defamation per se.

Due to the harm caused by Carroll’s false statements, Trump’s counterclaim seeks a retraction of her comments and aims to deprive her of the $10 million she is seeking from him in the ongoing case.

Carroll increased her complaint to $10 million following Trump’s derogatory remarks about her during a CNN town hall, where he called her a “whack job.”

Carroll’s lawyer, Roberta Kaplan, downplayed Trump’s counterclaim, stating that it is merely an attempt to delay accountability for his defamation of E. Jean Carroll, which the jury has already found him guilty of.

“But whether he likes it or not, that accountability is coming very soon,” Kaplan added.
