Trump to participate in National Association of Black Journalists convention this week
Former President Donald Trump will attend a conference of black journalists in Chicago this week as his campaign tries to run up his gains with black voters.
Trump is slated to join a question-and-answer panel session with political journalists attending the National Association of Black Journalists’ annual Convention & Career Fair this week. The panel will be moderated by ABC News’s Rachel Scott, Fox News’s Harris Faulkner, and Semafor’s Kadia Goba.
“We look forward to our attendees hearing from former President Trump on the critical issues our members and their audiences care about most,” NABJ President Ken Lemon said in a statement.
“While NABJ does not endorse political candidates as a journalism organization, we understand the serious work of our members, and welcome the opportunity for them to ask the tough questions that will provide the truthful answers Black Americans want and need to know,” Lemon continued.
On the panel, Trump is set to discuss “the most pressing issues facing the Black community.”
The panel will be on the convention’s opening day, Wednesday, July 31, at 12 p.m. Central time. The event is not open to the public, only registered attendees, but it will be livestreamed on NABJ’s YouTube and Facebook pages.
Vice President Kamala Harris, the presumptive Democratic nominee, was invited to the convention, but NABJ said “her confirmation is pending.” NABJ said former Presidents George W. Bush, Barack Obama, and Bill Clinton have attended NABJ conventions in the past, either as presidential candidates or while in office.
The Washington Examiner reached out to the Harris campaign regarding her attendance.
