Trump to say America’s ‘momentum’ is back after Biden’s ‘mess’ – Washington Examiner
In a recent address to Congress, President Donald Trump aimed to assert that the “momentum” of America is back after what he described as the chaotic aftermath of President joe Biden’s administration. He highlighted his swift actions in office over the past month, claiming to have signed nearly 100 executive orders and taken over 400 executive actions aimed at restoring America’s prosperity and confidence.
Trump framed his speech around the theme of the “Renewal of the American Dream,” asserting that the nation is on the brink of an unprecedented comeback. He planned to attribute much of the progress to his leadership, while directing blame toward Biden’s policies for the ongoing economic issues.
Amidst economic challenges, including inflation, trump reiterated his commitment to imposing tariffs as a means to foster economic growth, vowing to ensure that any tariffs imposed on American goods woudl be reciprocated. He expressed his intention to provide immediate economic relief to working families and promised infrastructure developments like a major natural gas pipeline in Alaska.
Additionally, Trump mentioned his efforts in dealing with foreign relations, particularly concerning the conflict in Ukraine, and indicated a willingness to assist Ukraine’s reconstruction with a new investment fund linked to its mineral profits. He emphasized the necessity for Congress to act on funding essential projects, including immigration control and a proposed border wall.
Trump’s address aimed to bolster his image as a proactive leader amidst challenges, positioning himself as the architect of America’s renewed strength.
Trump to say America’s ‘momentum’ is back after Biden’s ‘mess’
President Donald Trump is expected to take credit for his “swift and unrelenting action” during his first month in office in his first presidential report to Congress in five years while apportioning a fair share of blame to former President Joe Biden.
“Six weeks ago, I stood beneath the dome of this Capitol and proclaimed the dawn of the Golden Age of America,” Trump will say, according to excerpts obtained by the Washington Examiner. “From that moment on, it has been nothing but swift and unrelenting action to usher in the greatest and most successful era in the history of our country.”
Trump will add: “I return to this chamber tonight to report that America’s momentum is back. Our spirit is back. Our pride is back. Our confidence is back. And the American dream is surging —bigger and better than ever before. The American dream is unstoppable, and our country is on the verge of a comeback the likes of which the world has never witnessed, and perhaps will never witness again.”
The White House on Monday announced that the theme for Trump’s address would be “Renewal of the American Dream,” previewing that it would be a review of the president’s first month in office, “at home and abroad.”
“Over the past six weeks, I have signed nearly 100 executive orders and taken more than 400 executive actions to restore common sense, safety, optimism, and wealth all across our wonderful land,” Trump will say. “The People elected me to do the job, and I am doing it. In fact, it has been stated by many that the first month of our presidency is the most successful in the history of our nation.”
Amid a day of stock market turmoil after Trump confirmed on Monday that he would impose 25% tariffs on Canada and Mexico at midnight, a White House official told the Washington Examiner the president would also discuss what his administration has done and continues to do “to fix the economic mess created by the Biden administration and end inflation for all Americans.”
“Whatever they tariff us, we tariff them,” Trump will say. “Whatever they tax us, we tax them. If they do nonmonetary tariffs to keep us out of their market, then we do nonmonetary barriers to keep them out of our market. We will take in trillions of dollars and create jobs like we have never seen before.”
In conversations with the Washington Examiner, other White House aides have conceded that February’s consumer price index could undermine Trump’s promise to counter inflation from the first day of his presidency.
“Among my very highest priorities is to rescue our economy and get dramatic and immediate relief to working families,” Trump will say. “My administration is also working on a gigantic natural gas pipeline in Alaska, among the largest in the world, where Japan, South Korea, and other nations want to be our partner — with trillions of dollars being spent by them.”
He will continue, “Later this week, I will also take historic action to dramatically expand production of critical minerals and rare earths here in USA.”
The first official added that Trump would use Tuesday’s remarks as an opportunity to implore Congress to pass more funding for the deportation of illegal immigrants and construction of the border wall as Republicans, who control both chambers, remain in disagreement over how to keep the federal government open after March 14 and turn the president’s priorities into law.
“I have sent Congress a detailed funding request laying out exactly how we will eliminate these threats, protect our homeland, and complete the largest deportation operation in American history, larger even than current record holder Dwight D. Eisenhower — a moderate man but someone who believed very strongly in borders,” Trump will say. “Americans expect Congress to send me this funding without delay, so I can sign it into law.”
Trump, who himself has pledged that his address will “be big,” is anticipated to mention Ukraine after last week’s minerals deal was declared “dead” following a war of words between Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in the White House’s Oval Office.
“I am also working tirelessly to end the savage conflict in Ukraine,” Trump will say. “Millions of Ukrainians and Russians have been needlessly killed or wounded in this horrific and brutal conflict, with no end in sight. The United States has sent hundreds of billions of dollars to support Ukraine’s defense. Meanwhile, Europe has sadly spent more money buying Russian oil and gas than they have spent on defending Ukraine — by far! And Biden has authorized more money in this fight than Europe has spent.”
Reports emerged on Tuesday that the deal would be signed imminently after Zelensky expressed regret over the Oval Office exchange that ended in him being asked to leave the White House and reiterated his commitment to peace, two acknowledgments he was under pressure from Trump’s staff to make.
The deal concerns an investment fund for Ukraine’s reconstruction that would be financed by the country’s government-owned mineral profits but co-managed with the United States, which additionally would have interest in the fund.
DOUG COLLINS NAMED DESIGNATED SURVIVOR FOR TRUMP JOINT ADDRESS TO CONGRESS
“Our meeting in Washington, at the White House on Friday, did not go the way it was supposed to be,” Zelensky wrote. “Regarding the agreement on minerals and security, Ukraine is ready to sign it in any time and in any convenient format. We see this agreement as a step toward greater security and solid security guarantees, and I truly hope it will work effectively.”
Trump holds the record for the longest average addresses to Congress at one hour and 15 minutes, drawing his largest audience of 47.7 million viewers in 2017.
