As the 100th day of President Donald Trump’s second term nears, the Republican leader’s approval ratings have plummeted to the lowest of any president this early in his presidency.
Voters have been growing discontented with the president’s policies as his sweeping tariffs have fueled chaos and uncertainty in the volatile global economy.

A flurry of new polling has found that Trump’s approval rating has dropped below 40% — the lowest for any president at the 100-day mark of their first or second terms in office in roughly 80 years.
A Washington Post-ABC News Ipsos poll conducted among more than 2,500 showed that only 39% approved of the way Trump is handling his job. Roughly 55% said they disapproved — including a massive 44% that said they “strongly” disapproved.
A CNN poll conducted by SSRS was slightly more favorable to the president, with 41% saying they approved of the job Trump is doing.
Though, when looking at specific issues, that confidence drops further. The poll, conducted among 1,678 people, found that 35% approve of his handling of inflation and only 39% approve of his handling of the economy. On tariffs specifically, only 35% still offer their approval.
One Virginia resident who participated in the CNN poll told the outlet that even though she didn’t vote for Trump, she intended to give him the “benefit of [the] doubt.”

“[B]ecause I figured, you know, he could do things to help the economy and … further disappointment,” she said.
Trump’s low approval rates come as the president has swiftly moved to overhaul federal government spending through massive layoffs, walking back grants, and ending certain federal programs and offices altogether.
The president has moved swiftly to impose his agenda, issuing over 100 executive orders one month before his 100th day in office.
Trump’s looming tariffs announced at the start of this month, as well as the high tariff rates imposed on China in recent weeks, have caused many to question whether the administration is moving too quickly.
Since taking office, Trump’s approval ratings among voters has steadily declined, with a new CBS News poll released Sunday finding that 48% of Americans believe Trump’s policies are making them financially worse off. Roughly 53% of the 2,356 sample also said his policies were making the economy worse.

The CBS News poll did find that 45% of Americans still approve of Trump, while 55% disapprove.
April 29 marks Trump’s 100th day in office.
