While Donald Trump’s conviction in the New York hush money may have fueled more donations from his base, and cemented backing from many of the country’s top billionaires, a new poll appears to show that the former president has lost some voters since his guilty verdict.

A New York Times poll conducted between April and May found that Trump had a three percentage point lead over President Joe Biden. However, a survey conducted after Trump’s guilty verdict found that the former president now only holds a one percentage point lead over Biden.

Trump retained 93% of voters who said they were going to vote for him in the April/May survey. However, 3% of those nearly 2,000 voters from the original poll now say they are backing Biden, and 4% are now undecided.

One-fifth of voters who disliked both candidates but supported Trump have since defected away from him. About half of those voters now said they supported Biden and half said they were undecided.

A poll conducted by the outlet and Siena College in November found that 7% of voters in six battleground states would stop supporting Trump if he was convicted and sentenced to jail.

Trump’s sentencing is set for July 11, just four days before the Republican National Convention.
