Biden’s Campaign Co-chair: Trump’s Legal Issues Won’t Impact Reelection Bid.
President Biden Won’t Focus on Trump’s Legal Problems in 2024 Campaign
President Joe Biden’s 2024 White House run will not revolve around former President Donald Trump’s legal issues, according to Biden campaign co-chair Cedric Richmond. In an interview on ABC’s “This Week,” Richmond addressed Biden’s recent fundraising message, which coincided with Trump’s processing at an Atlanta jail. The message, which can be seen here, reads, “Apropos of nothing, I think today’s a great day to give to my campaign.”
Are Trump’s legal problems going to be part of your campaign against him?
“No,” Mr. Richmond said in response. “Those emails go out—you know, you get five and six of them a day. So, I wouldn’t read much into that.”
Martha Raddatz from ABC then mentioned that some voters believe the legal cases against Trump and Biden’s son, Hunter, “cancel out.” Richmond replied, “The president has said from the beginning that he wanted an independent Justice Department, and we have to respect that,” avoiding the question about Hunter Biden.
Meanwhile, the Trump campaign is capitalizing on the Georgia booking incident to raise millions of dollars. Trump’s first mugshot, taken after being indicted in four separate cases, has been shared online and turned into merchandise sold on his campaign website. The image shows Trump leaning forward, wearing his signature blue suit and red tie. Products featuring the mugshot include T-shirts, bumper stickers, coffee mugs, and beer coolers.
In his first post on X (formerly known as Twitter) since his suspension, President Trump shared the mugshot along with a link to his fundraiser website, urging supporters to contribute to “evict Crooked Joe Biden from the White House and SAVE AMERICA.” The website also claimed election interference and called on supporters to stand up against the “sinister people in control of our country.”
According to Trump campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung, the campaign raised .18 million on Friday alone, making it the “highest grossing day” of the campaign.
Overall, President Trump’s legal problems will not be a central focus of President Biden’s 2024 campaign, while the Trump campaign continues to leverage the Georgia booking incident for fundraising purposes.
