Trump’s lawyers take bold action to address ‘unlawful’ events.
Trump Challenges DOJ Over Alleged Possession of Classified Documents
Former President Donald Trump is demanding a showdown with the Department of Justice over the federal investigation into his alleged possession of classified documents. In a letter from his lawyers to Attorney General Merrick Garland, Trump requested a meeting to discuss the ongoing injustice being perpetrated by the Special Counsel and his prosecutors. Trump claims that he is being treated unfairly, especially when compared to President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, and the Biden family.
The documents in question were seized during a raid on Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida last year. The National Archives and the former president have been in a long-running back-and-forth over whether all material that should be in the archives were sent there. Attorney General Garland appointed Special Counsel Jack Smith to oversee the investigation into the documents to determine if there was a criminal case to be made.
ABC News reported that the letter’s purpose was to push back against any charges of mishandling classified documents that might be filed. The Washington Post speculated that based on grand jury activity linked to the investigation, Smith could be close to making a decision about whether to pursue charges against Trump.
