No flags other than that of the United States (and two others related to the country’s military) are to be flown or displayed at any of the country’s embassies or outposts, according to a new policy ordered by President Donald Trump and implemented by the State Department.
The new order, known as the “One Flag Policy,” was issued on Monday, the Washington Free Beacon reported. It meant that Black Lives Matter, LGBT pride flags, or any other ones associated with left-wing propaganda were no longer permitted to fly over U.S. government buildings anywhere in the world. It was the latest act implemented by Trump during a busy first two days to eliminate wokeness from government institutions.
“Starting immediately, only the United States of America flag is authorized to be flown or displayed at U.S. facilities, both domestic and abroad, and featured in U.S. government content,” the new policy states. “The flag of the United States of America united all Americans under the universal principles of justice, liberty, and democracy. These values, which are the bedrock of our great country, are shared by all American citizens, past and present.”
The only exceptions to the rule are two flags related to those who served in military combat: the Wrongful Detainees Flag and the Prisoner of War/Missing in Action (POW/MIA) emblem.
The “One Flag Policy” also stipulated that any employee who violated it would face severe consequences. These included disciplinary action such as “termination of employment or contract, or reassignment to their home agency.”
“The U.S. flag is a powerful symbol of pride and it is fitting and respectful that only the U.S. flag be flown or displayed at U.S. facilities, both domestically and abroad,” the “One Flag Policy” specified.
The “One Flag Policy” came as the president upheld a campaign promise to rid the government of the left-wing politically ideological initiative diversity, equity, and inclusion, or DEI. He signed an executive order on Monday to end such policies throughout the federal government. On Tuesday, Trump took further action to end programs related to the previous administration’s DEI efforts with another executive order, “Ending Illegal Discrimination and Restoring Merit-Based Opportunity.”
“We’re going to stop the destructive and divisive diversity, equity, and inclusion mandates across the government and private sector and return our country to the merit system,” Trump said at a celebratory rally the day before his inauguration.
