Trump Avoids Manhattan Indictment
According to reports, progressive Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg will not charge former President Donald Trump. However, the Manhattan Grand Jury will reconvene on Wednesday to continue weighing charges against Trump, as law enforcement officials brace themselves for possible protests from both sides of the political spectrum. Despite the possibility of indictment, Trump and his team have continually denied any wrongdoing and have maintained that the legal precedent is on his side.
Russia Claims It Intercepted 2 U.S. B-52 Bombers
Russia claims that its fighter jets intercepted two U.S. B-52 bombers near the Baltic Sea, just days after Russian planes forced a U.S. drone into the Black Sea. A Russian Su-35 reportedly pursued the American jets but returned to its base when the bombers changed direction. The incident took place during Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to Moscow, where he and Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed ending the Russia-Ukraine war. Additionally, two Russian nuclear bombers reportedly flew over the Sea of Japan as Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida visited Ukraine.
Biden Enacts COVID Origins Act
President Biden enacted the COVID-19 Origin Act of 2023 recently, which demands the disclosure of intelligence related to the origins of the COVID-19 virus. Biden reportedly shares Congress’ objective of releasing as much information as possible, yet the President may redact portions of the intelligence in order to protect national security. Senator Josh Hawley sponsored the bill, calling the move a “huge victory for transparency,” but the report’s release date remains unclear.
