Turley warns of consequences for Hunter Biden: ‘Clear-cut contempt case
Law Professor: Hunter Biden Could Face Contempt of Congress Charges
Renowned law professor Jonathan Turley predicts that Hunter Biden may soon be charged with contempt of Congress for his actions in defying a congressional subpoena. Speaking on Fox News, Turley described Biden’s defiant speech in front of the Capitol as a “slam-dunk case of contempt.”
Democrats’ Involvement Draws Attention
Turley also highlighted the involvement of several congressional Democrats in this matter. He pointed out that these Democrats followed a similar approach, having witnesses appear for depositions before public hearings. One such Democrat, Rep. Eric Swalwell, even reserved a spot for Biden to speak, potentially to avoid arrest.
“This raises serious questions under the House rules. I’ve never seen anything quite like that,” Turley remarked. He added that Swalwell’s actions were different because he used his office and staff to defy a valid subpoena of the House.
Possible Disciplinary Actions Against Swalwell
Turley emphasized that there are various disciplinary options available for Swalwell, ranging from censure to reconsidering his committee assignments. However, the crucial aspect is determining the extent to which Swalwell not only facilitated but also encouraged what could be a federal crime.
“In my view, what Hunter did on that day constitutes federal criminal contempt,” Turley concluded.
