A senior adviser for former President Donald Trump’s campaign has issued a scathing statement regarding Gov. Ron DeSantis’s reported campaign reset. In the statement, Jason Miller compares the campaign’s reboot to iconic shows like “Dynasty,” “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” and “MacGyver,” suggesting that they were doomed to fail.
A Campaign in Need of a Turnaround
Miller criticizes the DeSantis campaign for its inability to turn things around with their current candidate. He takes a swipe at their decision to schedule a news appearance with CNN’s Jake Tapper, suggesting that they could have reached a larger audience by joining one of CNN’s high-profile prime-time hosts if they had something compelling to say.
Furthermore, Miller characterizes the Florida governor’s campaign trajectory as a nosedive, describing DeSantis as an “unlikable candidate“ with no campaign message and rapidly declining poll numbers.
Concerns and Questions Surrounding the Campaign
Recent reports indicate that DeSantis’s campaign has let go of nearly a dozen staff members due to concerns from donors. Additionally, questions have arisen about the campaign’s financial situation, as DeSantis has significantly less cash on hand compared to Trump and Sen. Tim Scott.
Polling Results
In a recent Morning Consult poll, Trump’s support decreased by 1 percentage point, while DeSantis gained 1 point. However, this change falls within the poll’s margin of error.
Another poll conducted by the University of New Hampshire Survey Center shows Trump losing ground against his primary competitors, particularly DeSantis and Scott. Trump’s previous 20-point lead over DeSantis has now narrowed to just 14 points, while the governor’s support remains steady. Scott has also seen a 6-point increase in support in the state.
