Twitter fact-checks Biden, cites multiple US debt defaults.
President Biden Fact-Checked on Twitter
President Joe Biden’s recent tweet blaming Republicans for the debt ceiling fight was met with a fact-check from Twitter’s new “Community Notes” feature.
Debt Ceiling Drama
In his tweet, Biden accused MAGA Republicans of “reckless hostage-taking” by threatening to force America into default. However, the Community Notes feature added some context to the situation by providing a list of times when the U.S. defaulted on its debts, including three times during Biden’s lifetime.

Interestingly, the final default happened after Biden took office in the Senate. This isn’t the first time the president has been fact-checked on Twitter, either.
Fact-Checking on Twitter
The Community Notes feature allows readers to upload links for fact-checking and provide accurate information. In a previous instance, Biden was fact-checked on Twitter before the 2022 midterm elections in November.
Despite the addition of the notes, both tweets remain on the platform. However, Biden’s following has continued to grow, with over 30.7 million Twitter followers as of now.
It’s clear that Twitter’s new fact-checking feature is here to stay, and it will be interesting to see how it affects political discourse on the platform in the future.
