Two 2024 GOP contenders square off on culture war: ‘The kinds of debates we need to be having’

At a recent event, entrepreneur and author Vivek Ramaswamy had a brief encounter with Gov. Chris Sununu (R-NH) regarding their differing positions on the culture wars. Ramaswamy took issue with Sununu’s apparent focus on free-market principles over contentious societal issues, stating that both must be addressed. The crowd of Republicans present disapproved of Sununu with groans and boos. Ramaswamy clarified that he disagrees with Sununu and that the traditional 1980 Republican platforms do not match the urgent challenges of 2023. Ramaswamy is currently on a 10-county tour of New Hampshire until April 17th, during which his support in the state has been increasing according to polls.

Meanwhile, Sununu, who is contemplating a presidential run in 2024, has warned the GOP that it has lost its way by using government power to combat what he sees as unnecessary “woke” behavior. Sununu argues that punishing private businesses for their political beliefs is counterproductive, as the Democrats would start targeting conservative nonprofits and businesses if Republicans did the same.
