Two Dead, Multiple Injured After Las Vegas Stabbing Attack
Two people died and at least eight others suffered injuries in a knife attack outside a Las Vegas casino on Thursday.
Police responded to reports of a stabbing outside the Wynn casino off of Las Vegas Boulevard just before noon, according to Metropolitan Police Department Captain Dori Koren. One person was taken into custody while victims were transported to nearby medical centers, including three victims listed in critical condition, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
Koren said that the suspect was arrested “very quickly,” according to the Daily Mail. Authorities recovered a knife from the crime scene.
“A man just started stabbing and slashing,” a witness said, according to the Daily Mail. Another witness, Canadian tourist Maxime Wallace, said “everything happened so fast it was hard to see.”
Videos from the scene showed victims being taken away on stretchers. Authorities did not give a motive for the stabbing.
Pierre Fandrich, another Canadian tourist, gave his account of what he saw through a translator.
“He thought it was laughing at first but then he heard it was screaming, actually,” Wallace said, translating for Fandrich out of French to English, the according to the Review-Journal.
Fandrich said he saw three or four women dressed as showgirls outside of the Wynn casino.
“There was one showgirl on the ground,” Fandrich said. “There was another showgirl on top of her, trying to help her friend. She seemed to be stabbed in the back, but she didn’t notice because she was helping the other showgirl.”
“There was a lot of blood on the ground,” Fandrich said. The tourist also noticed another person lying on the sidewalk apparently stabbed about 100 feet from the showgirls.
