Tragic Helicopter Crash Claims Lives ‍in ⁣Florida

In a devastating incident on Monday morning, ‌a Broward County Sheriff’s ‌Fire Rescue ‍helicopter experienced engine failure ​and crashed into an apartment building‌ in Pompano Beach, Florida. The crash resulted in the loss of ​two lives and injuries ⁢to four ​others.

Broward County​ Sheriff Gregory Tony informed reporters that authorities received a distress call at approximately 8:45 a.m., ‍prompting three‌ emergency crew⁢ members to quickly board a⁢ Eurocopter EC135 rescue helicopter. However, just two minutes after ‍takeoff⁤ from the Pompano Beach Airpark, a⁢ fire broke⁢ out onboard, leading​ to mechanical⁣ issues that ultimately caused the helicopter to crash into a nearby triplex building.

Tragically, Captain/Flight Paramedic Terryson Jackson, ​50, and an unidentified woman in her home ⁣lost their lives in the crash. The other two ‌crew members and two additional individuals were transported ⁤to Broward Health with minor injuries.

Sheriff Tony spoke highly of Captain ​Jackson, describing him as a dedicated professional who had an‍ unwavering commitment to his community. The ‌two surviving crew members were identified as Pilot Daron Roche, 37, and ​firefighter/paramedic Mikael “Mike” Chaguaceda,⁣ 31.

As‍ the community mourns ‍this devastating ⁣loss, Sheriff Tony emphasized that‍ despite their grief, the Broward⁤ County Sheriff’s Office remains prepared⁤ to respond to future emergencies. He acknowledged⁣ the pain and⁤ challenges that lie ahead but assured⁤ the public that ⁢their​ focus and dedication ⁤will not waver.

Video‌ footage captured​ by witnesses shows the helicopter trailing smoke before breaking apart and spiraling out of⁤ control upon impact. Additional videos depict the apartment building engulfed in flames as the two surviving passengers ⁤manage‍ to escape.

Local​ 10 News interviewed the⁢ father and⁢ sister of the ‌two⁣ injured civilians, who expressed⁢ their concern and‌ uncertainty⁢ about the condition of their loved ones. Ruben Chavez, a local resident who was‌ near ⁣the crash site, rushed to offer⁣ assistance upon hearing the helicopter crash. However, he was quickly pushed back by arriving police ⁤officers due⁢ to the⁢ danger of a‌ second explosion.

Veda⁣ Coleman-Wright,⁣ a spokesperson for ​the ‌sheriff’s office, ⁤announced during a news conference​ that both the National Transportation ⁣Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Agency have launched separate investigations into the incident. She urged the⁢ public ⁤to be patient​ as these investigations ​unfold.
