Two More Tennessee Deputies Fired After Beating Death of Tyre Nichols
Friday Bodycam and surveillance footage Video footage was released that shows Tyre Nichols, 29 years old, being beaten by five Memphis Police Department Some officers were part a special division called the Scorpion Unit of the Organized Crime Unit. The mayor has ordered the group to cease operations, and the Shelby County Sheriff has suspended the two other officers who were on the scene at Nichols’ beating.

The Shelby County Criminal Court announced Thursday that the ex-officers Tadarrius Bean, Demetrius Hley, Emmitt M III, Desmond Mills, Jr., Justin Smith, were fired. In addition, five charges of second degree murder were filed against them.
According to authorities, Nichols was stopped for reckless driving on January 7. Officers claimed that Nichols was pulled over for reckless driving on January 7. Nichols complained about shortness of breath and was eventually taken into custody. He was then taken to the hospital, where he died on January 10.
The Daily Mail reports Two additional deputies arrived shortly after the five had subdued Nichols. “The group of officers could be seen standing around the injured man, first bumping each other as he lays twitching on the ground before an eighth officer appears and paramedics arrive.”
Sheriff Floyd Bonner Jr. “Having watched the videotape for the first time tonight, I have concerns about two deputies who arrived on the scene following the physical confrontation between police and Tyre Nichols.”
“I have launched an internal investigation into the conduct of these deputies to determine what occurred and if any policies were violated. Both of these deputies have been relieved of duty pending the outcome of this administrative investigation,” Bonner Jr.
Antonio Romanucci was one of the Nichols’ lawyers. “I will not be at all surprised when more criminal charges come against police officers.”
Romanucci also mentioned the Scorpion Unit, and said: “Make no mistake, Tyre Nichols was an innocent victim on that night. He did nothing wrong. He was caught up in a sting.”
Ben CrumpThe lawyer who represented George Floyd’s family following his death in 2020, as well as another attorney for Nichols, said that the Scorpion Unit was not charged with traffic stops. “We believe that this was a pattern and practice, and Tyre is dead because that pattern and practice went unchecked by the people who were supposed to check that.”
Joe Biden called Thursday “peaceful protest” In the streets of Memphis, he Released a statement and stated:, “I join Tyre’s family in calling for peaceful protest. Outrage is understandable, but violence is never acceptable. Violence is destructive and against the law. It has no place in peaceful protests seeking justice.”
Christopher Wray, Director of FBI, called for “a new approach to the problem” on Friday.Protest peacefully.”
