‘Until It’s Gone’: Ashton Kutcher Reveals Rare Syndrome That Left Him Unable To See, Hear Or Walk

Actor Ashton Kutcher revealed that he previously suffered from a rare autoimmune disorder that left him unable to see, hear or walk.

The 44-year-old actor opened up about his recent health challenges in an upcoming episode of National Geographic’s “Running Wild with Bear Grylls: The Challenge,” according to “Access Hollywood.”

“Like two years ago, I had this weird, super rare form of vasculitis, that like, knocked out my vision, it knocked out my hearing, it knocked out, like, all my equilibrium,” Kutcher explained. “It took me like a year to build it all back up.”

“You don’t really appreciate it, until it’s gone,” he added. “Until you go, ‘I don’t know if I’m ever going to be able to see again, I don’t know if I’m ever going to be able to hear again, I don’t know if I’m ever going to be able to walk again.’”

“Lucky to be alive,” Kutcher continued.

“The minute you start seeing your obstacles as things that are made for you, to give you what you need, then life starts to get fun, right?” he added. “You start surfing on top of your problems instead of living underneath them.”

“What do they say in survival?” host Bear Grylls replied. “Storms make you stronger. And I think he’s living proof of that.”

Vasculitis is described as a disorder that “involves inflammation of the blood vessels…which reduces the width of the passageway through the vessel” and “can result in organ and tissue damage,” according to the Mayo Clinic.

Kutcher is married to his former co-star from “That ’70s Show,” Mila Kunis, and the two share two children.

The full episode featuring “The Ranch” star airs Monday on National Geographic at 9 p.m. ET.
