US Consulate in Mexican Border Town Advises Staff to Stay Indoors Due to Violence.
Gun Violence Forces U.S. Consulate Employees to Shelter in Place in Mexican Border Town
In the northern Mexican border town of Matamoros, the U.S. Consulate is taking precautions as its employees are currently under a shelter in place order due to the escalating gun violence in the city.
Matamoros, which shares a border with the southern U.S. city of Brownsville in Texas, has been plagued by violence associated with drug trafficking in recent years.
“We strongly advise you to stay indoors and stay updated with local news for any developments in your area,” urged the U.S. Consulate General on X, the popular social media platform formerly known as Twitter.
